Former Stanford Coach David Shaw A Possible Candidate For Las Vegas Raiders Opening

David Shaw stepped down from coaching at Stanford after the 2022 season

The Las Vegas Raiders are nearly a month removed from firing head coach Josh McDaniels, and while they have gone 2-2 with Antonio Pearce at the helm, they are still doing their due diligence and looking around.

According to a report by Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, former Stanford head coach David Shaw is “a name to keep an eye on” as a candidate. Shaw stepped down from the head coaching role at Stanford after finishing last season in what was his third losing season in four years. Prior to that, Shaw went on an absolute terror at Stanford, and despite the down years, walked away as the program's winningest coach.

He has been working as an analyst for the NFL Network this season, but it isn't surprising to hear his name surface in NFL discussions. Before this NFL season, he reportedly interviewed for the Denver Broncos opening, which eventually went to Sean Payton.

If Pierce leads the Raiders to the playoffs, which is still a possibility he would make an even greater case for himself. As for Shaw, many viewed him as more compatible with the NFL compared to the college level, thanks to the vitality of the transfer portal and NIL among other things.
