After initial buzz that indicated the ACC could be a potential landing spot for Stanford and Cal it appears that is no longer the case.

Even with efforts from Notre Dame who is a member of the conference in all sports except for football, Stanford and Cal reportedly had just 10 of the needed 12 votes to join. ESPN's Heather Dinich spoke with Notre Dame's athletic director, Jack Swarbrick who revealed why they were pushing so hard for the ACC to add the two stranded West coast programs.

"The notion that two of the very best academic institutions in the world who also play D1 sports could be abandoned in this latest chapter of realignment is an indictment of college athletics."

While signs indicate that their hopes of jumping to the ACC are likely over, leaving Stanford with three realistic options, CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd hinted at the fact that things can always change in college football.

We will have to just wait and see, but one things for certain and that is the fact that Troy Taylor is confident that Stanford will be in a Power conference.
