Stanford lands commitment from four-star QB Elijah Brown
Troy Taylor and his staff have been on a roll as of late when it comes to recruiting, and the staff who is a few months into the job just landed their biggest of their brief tenure.
Four-star Mater Dei quarterback Elijah Brown took to social media on Sunday to announce that he will be committing to Stanford.
Brown is the highest ranked quarterback that had yet to commit, and is coming off a strong showing during the Elite 11 Finals. The Mater Dei product is one of the most successful high school quarterbacks in the country, and could end up as one of the most accomplished in high school football history. Brown has compiled a 29-1 record as the starter at the Southern California powerhouse that produced names like Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, and most recently Bryce Young. This past season he threw for 2,785 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions en route to a 12-1 season.
The biggest question about Stanford's football program in the early portion of the Taylor era is who will be the quarterback, and while Taylor spoke highly of the guys on the roster and the portal addition Justin Lamson, it is safe to say that Stanford just secured their quarterback of the future. Brown has the potential to be Stanford's most important recruit since Andrew Luck if he is able to live up the hype.
Brown comes in as Stanford's highest ranked commit of their 2024 class, as according to 247Sports he ranks as the No. 33 player in the country. Just one spot away from being a five-star recruit. Only two quarterbacks in the history of the program rank higher than Brown, with both being NFL quarterbacks in Davis Mills and the aforementioned Luck.
Stanford's recruiting class ranks as the No. 9 class in the country with the addition of Brown, and should have Stanford fans extremely excited when they think of the potential that his program has.
247Sports' Greg Biggins projects Brown as a future first round pick in the NFL, citing his maturity and accuracy as two of his better qualities.
Brown plays with a poise and maturity rarely seen at the HS level. He has started every game since his freshman season and has never looked overwhelmed while playing against top level competition. He's a very accurate thrower and will stand in the pocket as long as possible to get a throw off. He's one of the better deep ball throwers as well and has a really natural feel for throwing on time and throwing players open. He doesn't run much but is a good athlete and does a nice job making that initial pass rusher miss and extending a play. His arm strength has improved over the last year and he's added good weight to his body and looks much stronger. He's a clutch player and the guy you want leading your team late in a game and the moment is never too big for him.
The Cardinal have now landed 16 commits in the month of June with Brown being the cherry on top.
