Stanford WR Elic Ayomanor Named Pac-12 Offensive Player Of The Week
If you went to bed at halftime of Stanford's game against Colorado this past Friday it wouldn't be the most shocking thing.
Deion Sanders' Buffaloes built a 29-0 lead at the half, and seemed well on their way to their fifth victory of the season. However, the Stanford Cardinal came out of the locker room like they were possessed, and before you knew it they were tying the game up and sending it to overtime where they ended up winning by a score of 46-43.
The catalyst of the victory was none other than the Canadian wide receiver, Elic Ayomanor. After dropping a would-be touchdown pass in the first half, Ayomanor tore the Colorado defense to shreds. He took a catch 97 yards for a touchdown, another one 60 yards for a score, and ended up hauling in a 30-yard touchdown quite literally on Travis Hunter's head while dragging one of the best corners in the country into the end zone.
He finished the day with a career-high 13 catches for 294 yards, all of which came in the second half or overtime. His performance set a new watermark in the Stanford program record for receiving yards in a game (294), beating out Troy Walters in 1999. His showing also earned him Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, which marks the first time since Simi Fehoko did it in 2020.
He beat out notable names like Washington's Heisman frontrunner Michael Penix Jr., Utah's two-way star Sione Vaki, and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei among others.
Joining him in receiving honors was kicker Joshua Karty, who earned Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week.
