Aggies Promote Hitting Coach Michael Earley To Full-Time Position
Texas A&M baseball is adding another full-time member to its staff for the 2024 season.
Hitting coach Michael Earley will transition from a volunteer coaching role into a full-time paid position with the Aggies, according to coach Jim Schlossnagle in a statement released Friday. Earley has been with the program since Schlossnagle was hired from TCU following the 2021 season.
The Aggies were able to add another member to their staff thanks to the new NCAA rule which eliminates volunteer coaching positions and allows college baseball teams to have four full-time paid coaches. The ruling, which was voted on by the NCAA Division I council last January, won't go into effect until the start of the 2023-24 season.
"We are very thankful to our administration and Ross Bjork for their continued commitment to have what we consider the most talented coaching and support staff in college baseball,” Schlossnagle said. “Coach Earley and his family are an integral part of our program both on and off the field and he is most surely a rising star in our industry. I am excited to see his role in our program grow over time.”
Earley became a program staple en route to the Aggies' College World Series run in 2022. Joining Schlossnagle from Arizona State, Earley worked tirelessly to expand the hitting zone for A&M batters in conference play.
In 2022, the Aggies finished second among SEC programs in batting average (.289), second in hits (637), fourth in runs (474), fourth in RBIs (215, fifth in on-base percentage (.398) and sixth in slugging percentage (.469). A&M also launched 84 home runs, 124 doubles, and 10 triples.
Last season, A&M regressed at the plate, finishing fifth in the SEC in hits (579), seventh in on-base percentage (.393), seventh in doubles (106), seventh in RBI (418) 10th in home runs (84), 12th in slugging percentage (.449) and 13th in batting average (.270). The Aggies did manage to find life in the SEC Tournament, later making a run to the national tournament against No. 8 Stanford.
“Texas A&M and Bryan-College Station couldn’t be a better place to raise a family,” Earley said in a statement. “The community and support have been nothing short of amazing. My family and I are so excited to be a part of growing the Aggie Baseball program. My wife and I look forward to seeing our kids grow up in Bryan-College Station and getting back to Omaha.”
