Aggies Promote Nolan Cain To Associate Head Baseball Coach
Texas A&M baseball has found its replacement for Nate Yeskie as the program's next associate head coach, and it's coming in the form of an internal promotion.
The Aggies announced Tuesday that Nolan Cain would take over as the new associate head coach for the upcoming 2024 season. Cain is currently entering his third season with the program under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.
“Nolan has been the glue to our program over the past two years and especially over the past few weeks,” Schlossnagle said in a statement released by Texas A&M athletics. “He has more than earned this promotion and has continued to prove his incredible value both on the field and on the recruiting trail. We are excited to have Nolan and his family in Aggieland for a long time!”
Yeskie, who joined Schlossnagle from Arizona in 2021 as the Aggies' pitching coach, recently left Aggieland to reunite with former Wildcats coach Jay Johnson at LSU for the same position. He will replace Wes Johnson, who was named head coach at Georgia prior to the start of the College World Series last month.
Cain, who spent eight seasons on Paul Manieri's staff at LSU, joined the Aggies in 2021 to head up the recruiting department. In the new role, he will still work as one of the program's top recruiters, while also serving as the Aggies' third base coach. Cain also is still expected to work with the catchers.
“Since our arrival at Texas A&M, the transition for my wife, children and I has been very smooth and welcoming from the 12th Man and the Bryan-College Station community,” Cain said. “Beginning with the first day here our staff and families have embraced one another and it felt as though we had worked together for years. The present and future of Aggie Baseball is bright and we could not be happier with our time here.”
Cain's impact on the recruiting trail has helped keep A&M in the national spotlight over the previous two seasons. Last year, the longtime Tigers recruiting coordinator was essential in landing the commitments of freshman All-America outfielder Jace LaViolette and pitchers Justin Lamkin and Shane Sdao.
Since Schlossnagle's arrival, the Aggies have remained a contender in the SEC. In 2022, A&M punched its ticket to the College World Series and made it to the semifinals. A year later, the Aggies forced their way to the SEC Tournament championship, eventually garnering the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional.
