Texas A&M's Wade Taylor IV Named SEC Player Of The Week
Texas A&M men's basketball is back in the AP's top 25 poll for the first time since Week 2 following back-to-back wins over Arkansas and Missouri. In large part, the Aggies can thank Wade Taylor IV for his role in both victories.ย
The SEC certainly is.ย
Taylor earned SEC Player of the Week honors for his efficient play in victories over the Razorbacks and Tigers last week, the league office announced on Monday. Taylor, a native of Dallas, averaged 19.5 points and 5.0 assists in the two victories as the Aggies kept pace in the SEC standings.ย
Taylor connected on 60 percent of his 3-point tries and over 45% on field goal attempts. In both games, the sophomore kept both SEC programs 10 points under their conference scoring average.ย
Against the Razorbacks, Taylor marched his way up and down the court for 18 points, 16 of which came in the second half. His 3-pointer to begin the second half kickstarted a 9-2 run for the Aggies, eventually giving them the lead to coast to victory.ย
On Saturday against Missouri, Taylor posted 21 points and six assists in a 69-60 win.ย
The accolade marked the second career conference honors since joining the program in 2021. Last season, Taylor was named SEC Freshman of the Week after posting a season-high 19 points in an 83-73 win over Oregon State.ย
Through the last four games, Taylor has averaged 21.0 points and 5.3 assists. The Aggies return to Reed Arena Tuesday to face off against No. 11 Tennessee at 6 p.m. A&M ranks No. 2 in the SEC standings behind No. 2 national Alabama. The Volunteers, who lost in a 66-64 matchup against SEC East rival Kentucky, are tied for third with the Wildcats.
