Aggies Land Commitment from UIC Transfer Jace Carter
The Texas A&M Aggies have landed their first major commitment via the transfer portal this offseason.
The Aggies are adding UIC Flames transfer guard Jace Carter, per reports Wednesday from On3. Playing for the University of Illinois at Chicago the past two seasons, Carter emerged as one of the top scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Carter averaged 16.6 points and seven rebounds this past season, as his scoring numbers were good for sixth-best in the conference. He also led the MVC with 1.8 steals per game, meaning coach Buzz Williams is adding some elite perimeter defense to his backcourt.
“It just felt like home,” he told On3. “All those guys over there love each other and love to work hard, and those are my type of people. They made me and my family feel like we were apart of them and we loved the atmosphere of College Station. Also, they have a great culture there and are lead by a great leader in Coach Buzz.”
Carter had eight games of three or more steals this season and four games with four steals. These are impressive numbers for a guy who played the role as primary defender and scorer for the Flames.
Carter only has two years of eligibility completed, meaning the Aggies could be retaining his services in College Station for seasons to come. Williams and Co. will look for this commitment to jump-start the arrival of more transfers as the offseason treads on.
