Aggies DB Bobby Taylor Withdraws Name From Transfer Portal

Bobby Taylor is headed back to College Station after a brief stint in the transfer portal.

Bobby Taylor is headed back to College Station. 

According to On3, Taylor has officially withdrawn from the transfer portal and intends to rejoin the Texas A&M Aggies football team. Taylor entered the portal earlier this week following the arrival of Boston College defensive back, Josh DeBerry. 

Per On3’s report, Taylor reached out to the Aggies’ coaching staff with the intent of returning to the program. He will have four years of eligibility remaining with the Aggies after redshirting last fall. 

A former four-star talent from Katy (Texas), Taylor missed the entire 2022 season due to injury. He was also limited in spring practice and did not play in the Aggies’ Maroon and White game earlier this month due to a wrist injury. 

The Aggies’ secondary depth was hemorrhaged by the transfer portal following a 5-7 season. Denver Harris (LSU), Smoke Bouie (Georgia), and Marquis Groves-Killebrew (Louisville) all left before the start of offseason workouts. 

The Aggies also lost versatile offensive lineman Matthew Wykoff to the transfer portal following spring practice. Redshirt sophomore Josh Bankhead also medically retired after missing the end of camp. 

A&M’s secondary should be considered a strong suit next season with the return of cornerback Tyreek Chappell and safety Demani Richardson. Along with DeBerry, the Aggies also picked up the commitments of Tony Grimes (North Carolina) and Sam McCall (Florida State).

Sixth-year A&M coach Jimbo Fisher also gave high praise to sophomore Bryce Anderson’s growth throughout the spring. The Beaumont native is expected to replace Antonio Johnson as the team’s nickel defender. 

He can blitz, he can tackle, and he can play special teams,” Fisher said of Anderson following the spring game. “We’ve got him in the return game. Bryce is a very talented guy. … Bryce can play nickel. He can play dime. He can play (farther) back at safety. If he had to, Bryce could be a corner. He can run. He can really run. And he’s got really good ball skills.”
