Texas A&M Aggies LB Edgerrin Cooper Named To Walter Camp All-America First Team Roster

Edgerrin Cooper led the Aggies in both tackles for loss and sacks in 2023.

Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper made Aggie nation proud on Friday night. 

Cooper was named to the Walter Camp All-America First Team, the league announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. He was the only A&M player honored during Friday's festivities

A tackling machine and forceful defender, Cooper was an unstoppable force during junior season en route to helping the Aggies rank seventh among Power 5 teams in total defense. The linebacker led the SEC and ranked 11th nationally with 17 tackles for loss on the year. Cooper's team-best 84 total tackles and eight sacks ranked sixth and fourth in the SEC, respectively. 

Cooper also helped A&M finish top-three in total tackles for loss (96.0) and sacks (42.0) as a unit. The Aggies also finished 32nd nationally in scoring defense (23.1 points per game) and 13th in opponents' third-down success rate (30.3 percent).

A native of Covington, La., Cooper tallied at least six takedowns in nine of the team's 12 games this season, matching his career high with 11 tackles against Alabama and Mississippi State. He had at least one tackle for loss in seven of the eight SEC games, including 8.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks through the first three league games of the season. 

Cooper also received First Team All-SEC accolades from the league’s coaches and was also named a First Team All-American by The Athletic and CBS Sports.

Texas A&M Aggies WR Ainias Smith Declares For 2024 NFL Draft, Will Coach In Bowl Game

The Aggies (7-5) will close out the 2023 season against No. 20 Oklahoma State (9-4) in the TaxAct Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston on Dec. 27 at 8 p.m.
