Texas A&M Football Makes Sweeping Changes to Offensive Coaching Staff
The Texas A&M Aggies are making several internal switches to their offensive staff for the 2023 season.
According to 247Sports, fifth-year A&M coach Jimbo Fisher has moved quarterbacks coach Dameyune Craig wide receivers coach and receivers coach James Coley to tight ends coach. Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will replace as the team's newest quarterbacks coach as a corresponding move.
Last season, Fisher elected to make switches to his staff before finishing 5-7, moving then-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Darrell Dickey to tight ends coach. Dickey was fired after five seasons in College Station.
Craig previously served as the team's receivers coach from (2018-21) before switching to quarterbacks last fall. Craig played quarterback at Auburn under Fisher from 1994-97. Coley, who has coached all five significant offensive positions throughout his 15 seasons at the collegiate level, served as the Aggies' tight end coach in 2020 and 2021.
According to 247Sports, the announcement has yet to be made official by Fisher as of this time.
Petrino, who joins the Aggies after a month-long stay as the offensive coordinator at UNLV, has primarily been a quarterbacks coach throughout his tenure. Becoming a staple in college football during the 2000s and 2010s as head coach at Louisville (2003-60, 2014-18) and Arkansas (2008-11), Petrino previously coached quarterbacks at Idaho (1989), Arizona State (1992-93), Nevada (1994), Utah State (1995-97), and Louisville (1998).
Petrino also was on staff with the Jacksonville Jaguars as quarterbacks coach from 1998-2001.
The Aggies will begin their allotted 15 spring practices on March 7. The annual Maroon and White Game will take place on Saturday, April 15.
