The Aggies host the Wildcats at Kyle Field on Saturday in their first game without former coach Jimbo Fisher as the Elijah Robinson era begins.

Robinson was promoted to interim head coach after the firing of Fisher on Sunday following the Aggies' 51-10 undressing of the Mississippi State Bulldogs the day prior. Former Bulldogs coach Zach Arnett was fired on Monday.

Robinson spoke to the media on Monday focused on the players and the transition. A&M athletic director Ross Bjork indicated he tasked Robinson as the interim coach. because he knew the players would rally around him. And Robinson is ready.

”The players are the most important, so we’re going to do things that are going to allow those guys to have fun, play with juice and energy, and understand that it’s going to be okay,” Robinson reassured. “Whatever that is as a staff, we’re going to come together and make the adjustments that need to happen for those guys to enjoy these next few weeks and play as well as possible,” Robinson added.

Robinson came to College Station with Fisher in 2018 as the defensive line coach before being promoted in 2022 as the assistant head coach and run game coordinator.

"They’re ready to move forward as far as saying what’s next. That’s the mentality they had. I’m forever grateful for every guy in that room and the way they embraced me after the news broke,” Robinson added.

The Aggies are bowl-eligible thanks to the win last week and hope to finish strong in their final two games against Abilene Christian and LSU. A&M has lost three of their last five after starting the season 4-1.

The Wildcats are just 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the UAC but have won three of their last five. They'll need a win against the Aggies in College Station to avoid ending their season under .500.
