One of the most successful Aggies seasons in recent memory was the 2012 season. It was A&M's first in the SEC and it saw success on many levels, up to and including a Heisman Trophy, Davey O'Brien Award, and a Manning Award for quarterback Johnny Manziel.

One of the reasons for Manziel's success was his offensive line, and the anchor on that 2012 line was Jake Matthews. Matthews is now set to be inducted into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame on Friday, securing his spot in Aggies history forever.

Matthews is one of eight former athletes to be named a member of the Texas A&M Lettermen's Association's 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame Class.

"Every year, it is an honor to recognize and celebrate the excellence of our newest hall of famers," A&M Athletic Director Ross Bjork said in a statement. "They personify our mission to create opportunities through championship athletics and their legends will now be cemented in Texas A&M history. This group made their mark on Aggieland during their time here, but they have continued to inspire and represent Texas A&M in their professional careers as well."

Jake is the son of Hall of Fame offensive tackle Bruce Matthews, who is also one of the top offensive linemen ever to take to the turf at Kyle Field. A four-year starter, Jake was a two-time first-team All-American and a finalist for the Outland Trophy during his senior year.

He started 46 consecutive games, working his way from right tackle to left tackle following the departure of Luke Jockel in 2012. During that 2012 campaign, A&M broke school records for passing (316.5 yards per game), scoring (44.5 points per game) and total offense (558.5 yards per game). Matthews helped guide A&M to a 36-16 overall record for his career, including its first 11-win season since 1998.

Jake was selected at No. 6 overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2014 NFL Draft and carried over his tough mentality to the pros. He currently has the longest starting streak among offensive linemen, with 146 consecutive games played dating back to 2015.

Jake's father, Bruce is a seven-time first-team All-Pro selection and holds the record for most career starts for an offensive lineman with one team in NFL history with 293 games as a member of the Houston Oilers.
