Louisiana Tech WR Cyrus Allen Verbally Commits To Texas A&M Aggies As Part Of Transfer Class
Another receiver is headed to College Station via the transfer portal.
Louisiana Tech transfer receiver Cyrus Allen announced his verbal commitment to Texas A&M on Sunday via X. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Allen, who became a household name in Ruston this past fall, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 4, and quickly emerged as one of the more coveted pass-catchers. Prior to his visit to A&M, Allen held offers from USC, Oregon, Miami, Wisconsin, Arkansas, South Carolina, and West Virginia, among others.
The sophomore visited A&M over the weekend after receiving an offer on Thursday. A day later, he committed to the Aggies as part of Mike Elko's first transfer class.
In two seasons with the Bulldogs, Allen recorded 67 catches for 1,278 yards and eight touchdowns. This past season, the 6-foot receiver earned All-Conference USA honorable mention after posting 46 catches for 778 yards.
Allen became the focal point of Louisiana Tech's offense after Tre Harris departed the program for Ole Miss. Like Harris, Allen hopes to become a leading target for the Aggies in the new version of the SEC.
Texas A&M Aggies WR Ainias Smith Declares For 2024 NFL Draft, Will Coach In Bowl Game
The addition of Allen now brings A&M's transfer total to four. The Aggies received commitments last week from defensive back Will Lee III (Kansas State) and receiver Javon Harvey (Old Dominion). Earlier this week, A&M secured the verbal commitment of linebacker Alex Howard (Youngstown State).
More work will need to be done before the end of the early transfer portal window. A&M has lost 13 scholarships to the portal and over a dozen to either graduation or the NFL draft. All-American linebacker Edgerrin Cooper recently declared for the draft, while players like defensive back Jardin Gilbert (LSU) and receiver Raymond Cottrell (Kentucky) have already found new homes.
The Aggies close out the 2023 season against No. 20 Oklahoma State in the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
