Aggies Betting Odds Set For 7 2023 Games, What Trends To Look For?

The Texas A&M Aggies were 3-7-2 against the spread last season.
In this story:

The Texas A&M Aggies' 5-7 season in 2022 was abysmal, but they were even worse against the spread covering in three contests.

The Aggies have lines set for seven games in 2023, as they are favorites by 37.5 points against New Mexico in the season opener, by 6.5 points at Miami, and by three points on the road against Arkansas, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. As the Southeastern Conference schedule rolls on, Texas A&M is the underdog by 8.5 points against both Alabama and Tennessee, 3.5 points against Ole Miss, and 10.5 points against LSU.

A&M is 5-0 all-time against the Lobos, scoring an average of 44.2 points per game and holding a 35.8-point average margin of victory. In the 2021 meeting between the two in College Station, the Aggies won 34-0 with former quarterback Zach Calzada throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns with the defense holding New Mexico to 122 yards of total offense.

Last season against the Hurricanes, A&M scored its first ranked win of the season in a 17-9 victory. Despite it not holding any weight with the Hurricanes finishing 5-7, it was the Aggies' first cover of the season and carried on a trend from the last three seasons.

Versus ranked opponents since 2020, the Aggies are 7-3-2 against the spread, winning outright in seven of those contests.

The Razorbacks, who hold the all-time series 42-34-3 outright, have owned the Aggies against the spread in recent history. Last season's 23-21 outright victory for A&M was a push against the two-point spread and snapped a four-game head-to-head cover streak for Arkansas against the Aggies.

Then we get to the big game against the Crimson Tide.

Since joining the SEC in 2012, A&M has produced two of its three all-time wins against Alabama and has been one of the Crimson Tide's toughest opponents. If the current line holds at 8.5 points, it'll be the third time the Aggies have been under a 10-point underdog to Alabama in the last 11 years — they are 1-1 against the spread in those games.

In the past five meetings between these two, A&M has covered in three contests, including an outright win as an 18.5-point underdog in 2021.

The Aggies and Volunteers have squared off only four times with Texas A&M on an active two-game win streak. In those two matchups since 2016, the Aggies are 1-0-1 against the spread, covering a 14-point margin in the most recent game in 2020.

Texas A&M has slipped recently after three-consecutive covers against the Rebels from 2017-19. In the past two years, the Aggies have back-to-back outright losses to Ole Miss by a combined 13 points and are 0-1-1 against the spread in that time.

Against the Tigers, A&M has been awful against the spread. Last season's upset 38-23 victory, snapped an 11-game streak that the Aggies didn't cover against LSU, but it also continued a recent trend.

In the past 10 games as double-digit underdogs, Texas A&M is 7-3 against the spread.

In On3's post-spring top 25, the Aggies have four opponents — LSU, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss — on their 2023 schedule.
