'Sees Some Derwin James In Me': 2024 4-Star SAF Myles Davis Commits To Texas A&M
It's not "Blue in Green," but more like maroon in white.
Class of 2024 safety Myles Davis announced his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies Wednesday, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett. The choice comes as a bit of a shock as 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong and On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine both believed Davis was going to commit to the Texas Longhorns.
Davis said he chose the Aggies because they viewed him as an "impact" player.
“They brought everything to recruit me and win me over Texas and really set themselves apart coming in and having a shot to compete for the starting job," Davis told On3. "College Station set right with my heart and honestly every coach I talked to didn’t like Jimbo and for some reason I love being on a team that’s hated.”
Davis is the No. 22 safety, according to On3. The Converse, TX. native was offered by Texas A&M Feb. 10, which is relatively late in the 2024 recruitment cycle, but took an official visit June 23 — the last of any school he took an official visit to — and was sold on his decision.
The Judson High School product recorded 38 tackles, four interceptions, and six pass break-ups in 2022.
Davis said he was impressed with the players that secondary coach Bryant Gross-Armiento has developed into NFL talent.
"I can come in and make an impact given I do the things like compete and get the starting job and just keep working," Davis told On3. "The potential they see for me is like no other school. Coach Jimbo was telling me how he sees some Derwin James in me and that I can be like him in my own way for his team."
