'A Special Place!' Aggies Coach Mike Elko And Family At Home In College Station
New Texas A&M Aggies head coach Mike Elko is familiar with the people and culture in College Station. Elko and his family originally arrived at A&M in 2018 when he was hired by then-Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher to be the defensive coordinator.
The Elko family spent four seasons in College Station before moving on as the head coach at Duke, and his family realizes how special the culture is at A&M.
“When you’re here for four years, it’s not hard to figure out how special of a place this is," Elko said. "My family and I love it here. You guys know we turned down a lot of opportunities to stay here.” “This place is special. We, as a family, believe that. Everybody in this community believes that.”
Elko returned to College Station after two seasons at Duke - where he won ACC Coach of the Year in 2022 - as the new head coach at A&M, taking over for his old boss Fisher.

Elko says he loves the freedom he has in College Station and the people around him.
“I can keep a low profile and just mind my own business,” Elko said. “When we were here, we integrated into the community. We certainly don’t want to do anything different. The people here just leave you alone and let you do your own thing. I’ve always respected College Station for that.”
