Jim Schlossnagle Reveals Starting Rotation for Texas A&M Opening Weekend

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle has finalized the starting rotation for the Texas A&M Aggies' opening weekend vs. McNeese State.

Texas A&M Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the starting rotation of pitchers for Opening Weekend against McNeese.

Friday's game will start with Ryan Prager, Saturday with Justin Lamkin, and Sunday with Shane Sdao.

But it's been a minute since Prager took the mound due to a Tommy John surgery.

Friday

Prager's last appearance on the mound was on June 22, 2022, during A&M's College World Series defeat against Oklahoma, where he made 16 starts during his freshman season for the Aggies.

According to Schlossnagle, Prager appears impressive. His throwing has been consistently strong, and he appears physically and mentally prepared. The Aggies are aware of his potential. If he can maintain his health, Prager will be one of A&M's top arms, and getting the first start highlights just that.

Saturday

Lamkin earned 10 starts, tallying a 3-3 record and a 5.92 ERA last season, leading the SEC in innings pitched as a freshman. He struggled at times due to both excessive and insufficient strikes.

Nevertheless, Lamkin has developed significantly and approaches his sophomore season with improved skills. His steady demeanor remains a key asset, regardless of success or failure. Increased velocity and improved secondary offerings enhance his performance. Lamkin's unique release height and cross-firing tendencies make his fastball deceptively quick.

Sunday

Sdao made 22 appearances and two starts in 2023, posting with a 4-1 record and a 4.78 ERA. The sophomore has shown notable physical development, boasting increased size and strength along with higher average velocity.

His competitive nature and athleticism contribute valuable experience to our pitching unit, which is relatively inexperienced. His versatility allows him to fulfill various roles, from multiple bullpen appearances to potentially starting games.

The No. 8 Aggies aspire to elevate their pitching standards to match those of elite SEC programs like Florida, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt.

This requires a collective effort to enhance internal capabilities and recruit top-tier talent. While the pitching staff has made progress since last year, there remains room for growth to reach the desired level of excellence.

The Aggies begin their quest to return to Omaha in Year 3 under Schlossnagle start Friday at 6 pm at Blue Bell Park.
