After one of the more impressive and fastest starts to an Aggies game in recent memory, A&M beat the New Mexico Lobos 52-10 on Saturday night in the season opener at Kyle Field in College Station.

After jumping out to a 35-7 halftime score behind four touchdown passes from quarterback Conner Weigman - three to wideout Noah Thomas - the Lobos didn't look deterred in the second half. New Mexico got its first sack of Weigman early in the third quarter, a testament to the dominance of the A&M offensive line during the game.  Also scoring for A&M in the first half were wideout Evan Stewart and running back Le'Veon Moss.

The Lobos once again found offensive legs early in the third quarter with an extended 51-yard drive that took 7:09 off the clock. It began at their own 38-yard line and ended with a Luke Drzewiecki 27-yard field goal, New Mexico's first points of the game since the 4:21 mark of the first quarter. The Lobos' scoring drive was assisted by a Tyreek Chappell unnecessary roughness call inside the 10-yard line.

Weigman and the Aggies picked up where they left off after the Lobos field goal. With another Weigman-to-Stewart touchdown pass of eight yards on a beautiful fade to the corner of the end zone, A&M extended its lead to 42-10 late in the third quarter.

Max Johnson relieved Weigman in the fourth quarter as the Aggies held a 32-point lead. Weigman finished the night 18-of-23 for 236 yards and five touchdowns in his first start of the 2023 season. In the absence of Weigman, the A&M defense kept the pressure on Hopkins and the Lobos offensive line, with a couple of late-game sacks and tackles for losses.

Johnson would add to the touchdown parade with Moose Muhammad III for a nine-yard score, extending the Aggies' lead and putting the game away.

Amari Daniels topped all Aggies on the ground with 51 yards on seven carries and Evan Stewart caught eight balls for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

Up next for the Aggies is the University of Miami (1-0) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 9
