Aggies Land Inside Top 20 in Post-Spring College Football Rankings

Texas A&M lost several key players to the NFL Draft and graduation. But for a storied program, it's business as usual as players will be replaced through the transfer portal and recruitment, and coach Fisher still has his eyes set on a College Football Playoff appearance for 2023.

The Texas A&M Aggies' 2022 season was more than a disappointment. I could be labeled a disaster. With sub-par quarterback play at the top of the list of problems, the 5-7 finish caused many Aggieland faithful to question the future of coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff.

Coaching changes were made and a change of offensive philosophy combined with the advancement of quarterback Conner Weigman as presumed starter gives hope for 2023.

And now, Texas A&M loses several key players to the NFL Draft and graduation. But for a storied program, it's business as usual as players will be replaced through the transfer portal and recruitment, and coach Fisher still has his eyes set on a College Football Playoff appearance for 2023.

Everyone is chasing Georgia, who won a second-consecutive national championship last year, and the road to a title appears to once again go through the SEC East. But if all goes well, the Aggies might have a little something to say about that.

Media outlet 247Sports released its early 2023 preseason rankings, but now that additions have been made to spring rosters and teams have completed their spring games, changes have occurred. And the Aggies are no exception.

As we head into summer, 247Sports expects the Aggies to appear on the preseason top 25 come August.

16. TEXAS A&M AGGIES

247Sports' way-too-early ranking pre-spring: No. 22

"After debuting inside the preseason top 10 in last year's way-too-early polls, Texas A&M lost the benefit of the doubt after a disappointing 2022 campaign. This 2023 season is vital for Jimbo Fisher and his future in College Station, and his new-look coaching staff should assist in turning things around. This team's SEC West hopes could depend on the development of quarterback Conner Weigman and if he's able to take this offense by the horns as a sophomore. The arrival of Bobby Petrino to fix the playbook may help."

The biggest questions facing the Aggies entering 2023 will surround the offense and the growth of QB Weigman. Can the Aggies bounce back for a successful 2023 season? It all starts Sept. 2 against New Mexico at Kyle Field.
