Chasing Achane: AFC East Team Eyeing Aggies RB Devon in Round 1
Devon Achane was a star on the Aggies' offense for the past couple of years, and the Miami Dolphins seem to have taken note.
On Monday, reports were that the Dolphins wanted to trade up into the first round for a running back. They were reportedly targeting Alabama's Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick this year as punishment for the Tom Brady tampering incident.
Dolphins beat writer Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald thinks Miami might have a different target in mind, though, as he reported the Dolphins have spent "considerable time" with Achane over the past several weeks.
“We hear the Dolphins also like Texas A&M running back Devon Achane and spent considerable time with him in the past two weeks, according to an Aggies source,” Jackson wrote on Monday afternoon.
Last season, Achane ran for 1,102 yards on 196 carries and caught 36 passes for 196 yards. He scored 11 touchdowns both through the air and on the ground.
According to draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr., Achane's game reflects a little bit of Darren Sproles' game.
“My comp for Achane? Darren Sproles," Kiper said. "That’s because Achane has a ton of value as a returner and in the passing game. He needs to hit his ceiling to be as productive as Sproles, of course, but he is my third-ranked back in this class.”
