Texas A&M Aggies Rank No. 11 in Baseball America Top 25 Poll
The Texas A&M Aggies will have high expectations heading into the 2024 season.
Baseball American ranked the Aggies as the No. 11 college baseball program in the country in their newly released preseason poll on Monday.
Now, with an eye on capitalizing on their late-season momentum from last year, the Aggies have strategically bolstered their roster through the transfer portal and recruiting.
The addition of standout outfielder/right-hander Braden Montgomery, a notable transfer from Stanford who is expected to be a first-round draft pick, adds considerable star power to College Station both on the mound and in the heart of the lineup.
Shortstop Ali Camarillo (Cal State Northridge) fills a crucial lineup role with significant impact and prospect status. Veterans Jackson Appel (Penn) and Hayden Schott (Columbia) provide valuable experience and depth.
Freshmen Gavin Grahovac, Isaac Morton, and Caden Sorrell are poised to contribute significantly. A&M aims to fine-tune their pitching roster, armed with the potential of power arms ready to make an impact.
A&M, which ranked ninth in the SEC for team ERA last season, faces the challenge of replacing key figures like Nathan Dettmer and Will Johnston, along with pitching coach Nate Yeskie who is now at LSU.
Max Weiner, formerly with the Mariners, takes over as the new pitching coach creating some movement. Returnee Evan Aschenbeck and newcomers Morton, Kaiden Wilson, and Tanner Jones bring power arms to the mound.
Left-handers Justin Lamkin and Troy Wansing gained experience, while the potential X-factor is Chris Cortez. The team boasts premium talent, but many pitchers lack SEC experience in significant roles.
One of the few standouts returning is outfielder Jace LaViolette who earned Freshman All-American honors in 2023, boasting a .287/.414/.632 slashline with 21 home runs and 18 stolen bases. A prospect in the 2025 draft class, he returns as a key player for A&M, anchoring their offensive efforts.
When it comes to Omaha the success of A&M hinges on the performance of its newcomers, the Aggies are counting on their transfers to make an immediate impact and freshmen to rise to the SEC schedule. W
ith quite a few new pieces the roster looks good on paper, with dynamic players like LaViolette and Montgomery, solid defenders in Camarillo and Appel, and a pitching staff loaded with potential.

However, this is not the first time A&M has received a positive season preview, just one year similar sentiments were said about the program's future. To secure a postseason spot at home, the Aggies must bond in a timely manner this spring and identify reliable contributors for crucial moments.
The Aggies have the tools to make for a successful season, hopefully, they get a jump start in 2024, unlike the 2023 season.
