Aggies Lead SEC in Returning Offensive Production, Bounce Back Season Ahead?

A disappointing season last year left Aggie fans bitter, but with a large amount of returning starters on offense, Texas A&M could be shaping up to have a bounce back year in the SEC.

Now that the 2024 SEC opponents have been released and the Texas A&M Aggies' rivalry matchup against the Longhorns has been officially renewed, the excitement surrounding Aggie football is an an all-time high.

All eyes are on the SEC, which, a year from now, will be set to include two new schools and a slew of new matchups including Texas and Oklahoma. It could pave the way for the Aggies to win their way to the top of the division-less conference, as well as earn a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff.

The new 12-team format will begin in 2024, but before Texas A&M can think about playing in it, it will have to show improvement from last season's 5-7 finish.

Luckily for the Aggies, there is reason to be excited for this upcoming season as well, as fans and analysts alike are reportedly "back on the A&M hype train."

"Returning [offensive] production is where Texas A&M really shines," SEC-podcast host Michael Bratton said of the Aggies. "Eighty-two percent of the offensive production is returning next year."

While the Aggies didn't have the most explosive offense in their history last season, it does speak to the fact that they'll get another shot this year without dealing with major turnover.

Conner Weigman will be back under center with a strong receiving corps of Ainias Smith, Moose Muhammad III, Evan Stewart and tight-end Donovan Green, who will all look to fuel the Aggies' passing game, while freshman running back Rueben Owens will get a chance to show his talent behind an entirely returning offensive line.

"That is a big reason why we're all fired up," Bratton said. "They got talent and they're all coming back ... they got pieces to explode out of nowhere."

If the Aggies do indeed have the pieces to become a playoff contender, it will be interesting to see how they respond to a new offensive coordinator next season, who could end up making or breaking the team's production.

Either way, the Aggies are shaping up to have a much improved season from last year ahead of coach Jimbo Fisher's sixth season.

Texas A&M will begin its 2023-24 campaign at home against the New Mexico Lobos on Sept. 2. at 6 p.m. CST.
