Texas A&M's Sam Bennett Continues Dominance In Round 2 Of Masters
Sam Bennett might not win the 87th Masters, but he did prove that he wasn't a one-hit-wonder Friday during the second round of season’s first major.
The Texas A&M senior doubled down on his 4-under-par outing with another 4-under on Day 2 at Augusta. He currently sits in sole possession of third place heading into Saturday at -8, trailing only Brooks Koepka (-12) and Jon Rahm (-9). Rahm has yet to complete his second round after play was suspended due to high winds and inclement weather.
Bennett owns a two-round tally of 8-under 136, the second-lowest amateur score after two rounds in Masters Tournament history, trailing only Ken Venturi’s 135 in 1956. With his rounds of 68-68, Bennett joined Venturi and Charles Coe (1961) as the only amateurs to record multiple rounds in the 60s at a Masters Tournament.
After finishing with 12 pars to close out Thursday, Bennett finally hit his first bogey of the weekend on hole 4, but swiftly recovered with birdies on holes 8, 9, 13 and 14. Bennett also finished with pars on the remaining 12 other holes.
The second round will restart and conclude on Saturday, with the third round immediately following. Bennett's projected start time has yet to be announced.
