You never know when a scary moment will strike. Whether it's to you or someone around you, or to a loved one as you watch. Such was the case with Texas A&M football commit Gabriel Reliford.

In a story from the Shreveport Times, which was released this week, Reliford, a 2024 four-star (per On3) edge, once saved his then-10-year-old brother Emmanuel from a pit bull attack. How one reacts not just in the face of adversity, but in a potentially fatal situation speaks volumes about his or her character.

An account of the incident was shared by the Shreveport Times. “He [Gabriel Reliford] turned to see that none of the neighbors watching the incident were offering assistance, so he headed back and was able to wrestle Emmanuel away from the dog and get him to safety. Emmanuel survived, but needed multiple hospital visits to have bites and cuts repaired.”

That's a testament to the kind of person Reliford is and his potential not as a football player, but as a human being. Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher might have found the next great leader both on and off the field for the program.

Reliford, a Shreveport, Louisiana native, committed to the Aggies on June 27 after considering offers from Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, SMU, Arizona State, and Baylor, and others. The 6-3, 255-pound defensive end is the 427th player ranked nationally, the No. 29 defensive lineman, and the 11th player ranked in the state of Louisiana.
