Aggies Prove Jimbo Fisher Doesn't Need A Recruiting Director

Last year, Texas A&M had its worst finish in recruiting ranking since Jimbo arrived in College Station at No. 15. But even though Fisher has taken his time in replacing Kevin Mashack, they've improved in recruiting.

The Texas A&M Aggies have one of the best recruiting classes this season, and it's been spearheaded by coach Jimbo Fisher. Most schools benefit from a recruiting director or director of player personnel. But the Aggies have been without that position since Kevin Mashack left in June.

“The recruiting director ain’t doing all the recruiting,” A&M coach Jimbo Fisher told the Houston Chronicle. “Every coach still (recruits), every off-field guy has got roles … and as the head coach, you’re still regulating it all. You’re still deciding who you sign, when you sign, where you go, what you do, how you do all of that.

“Those people just organize things in your thoughts, and we’re still involved with everything on a daily basis anyway.”

Last year, A&M had its worst finish in recruiting ranking since Jimbo arrived in College Station at No. 15. But even though Fisher has taken his time in replacing Mashack, they've improved in recruiting.

As of today, the Aggies rank No. 7 in the country per On3. That's been helped by the recent commitments from two of the top offensive linemen for the 2024 class, Blake Ivy of Clear Springs and Isendre Ahfua of Seattle.

Ivy's recruitment was all Jimbo and his staff, as Mashack was not involved at all.

“We have exactly what we want inside with what we’re doing right now,” Fisher said. “We may hire some more people coming up, and we may not, just depending on getting the right people for the right situation. … Those (recruiting) things all still come through us and what we do, and there will be other people we’ll eventually bring into those roles and get the right person to do the things we want to do.”

If the current recruiting success continues, it might be a while before Jimbo replaces Mashack with anyone, rather, leaving the whole thing to himself and his staff. And no one can argue with the results.
