Big 12 Men’s Basketball Midweek Rundown: Kansas’ Road Woes Continue
This week’s midweek Big 12 men’s basketball games provided entertainment and intrigue unless you are a Jayhawks fan.
No. 6 Kansas traveled to Lubbock on Monday night. And they were just walloped, losing to Texas Tech 79-50. Also, on Monday, TCU got a much-needed bounce-back win and ended its two-game losing streak. The Horned Frogs beat West Virginia 81-65.
Road wins in this league are hard to get. On Tuesday, No. 10 Iowa State got one when they took down Cincinnati in the Queen City. The 68-59 win marked the third time this season that the Cyclones won a conference road game.
In a battle of ranked teams, No. 12 Baylor easily took care of business at home over No. 25 Oklahoma with a 79-62 win over the Sooners.
Probably the most exciting midweek game was in Provo. No. 19 BYU had to hold off a late rally by UCF to get a 2-point win. The Cougars established a 19-point lead early in the second half, but the Knights just chipped away at it. UCF scored four 3-pointers in the final minute of the game to cut the margin to two points. BYU’s Jaxson Robinson scored eight free throws in the final minute to allow BYU to hold onto the lead. The final score was 90-88.
The conference’s NET ranking of 45.9 is the lowest of all leagues. The next lowest are the Big Ten at 62.3 and the SEC at 67.5
