On the penultimate Saturday of the regular season, the race for the final conference standings looks like it will go all the way to the finish line, at least for the group of teams bunched in the middle of the pack.

Saturday’s games may have given clarity to some teams and made it more chaotic for others.

The slate began with a ranked-versus-ranked matchup in Waco as No. 15 Baylor hosted No. 7 Kansas. Baylor held a narrow 35-34 lead at halftime but outscored the Jayhawks in the second half to give Kansas its second consecutive loss.

Texas easily took care of Oklahoma State, 81-65, while No. 8 Iowa State got another road win defeating UCF 60-52. Texas Tech came from behind on the road to defeat West Virginia 81-70.

Two points determined two games on Saturday. Cincinnati took the lead in its game against Kansas State with 0:15 left to pull off a 74-72 win. In Norman, Javian McCollum got a game-tying layup with 0:11 seconds left for the Sooners after Sam Godwin missed a free throw. No. 1 Houston’s Jamal Shead missed a layup but got his own rebound, and with one second left in the game, he shot a 10-foot jumper to give the Cougars an 85-83 win.

In the late game of the night, TCU, playing BYU in Provo, had a 17-point lead at halftime, only to fall apart in the second half and lose 87-75.

The conference’s NET ranking of 45.9 is the lowest of all leagues. The next lowest are the Big Ten at 59.9 and the SEC at 68.9.
