Earlier this week, we recapped the Saturday games by saying, “Any. Given. Day.” Such is life in Big 12 men’s basketball this season. This week’s slate of midweek games continued that trend.

Getting a road win in this conference is nearly impossible. Houston went into Lawrence on Saturday and learned that lesson. Kansas then traveled just down I-70 on Monday to Manhattan and had the same experience. In a game that was tied over a dozen times, No. 4 Kansas scored with 0:15 remaining to force overtime over rival Kansas State. The Cats controlled overtime, never giving up the lead once the first free throw was made. K-State won 75-70.

On Tuesday, there were four games on the Big 12 slate. No. 5 Houston had no problem with Oklahoma State with a 79-63 win. In Norman, despite having just dropped out of the rankings, Oklahoma was a 2.5-point favorite over No. 21 BYU. The Sooners won 82-66.

The one home team to lose was Texas, who hosted No. 14 Iowa State. The Cyclones had a double-digit lead with under five minutes to play. However, the Longhorns chipped away at that lead. Texas made it a one-possession game with six seconds left, but Iowa State then made the two ensuing free throws to win the game 70-65.

In a battle of ranked teams, No. 13 Baylor held off No. 23 Texas Tech to win 79-73. Four teams in the league – Cincinnati, TCU, UCF, and West Virginia – all had midweek byes.

The conference’s NET ranking of 45.4 is the lowest of all leagues. The next lowest are the Big Ten at 62.6 and the SEC at 68.4
