Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament Round Four: Then There Were Two
Just like the quarterfinals the day before, the two semifinal games at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship in Kansas City were anti-climactic. The two top seeds in the tournament, No. 1 Houston and No. 2 Iowa State, cruised to easy victories on Friday evening.
Houston took on No. 4 Texas Tech and came away with a 23-point victory. This was followed by Iowa State’s game with No. 3 Baylor. The point difference was not as great, but it was still double digits, with the Cyclones winning 76-62.
Houston and Iowa State will play in the championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. It can be seen on ESPN.
The two teams played twice in the regular season. Iowa State won the first match, which was in Ames on January 9. The Cyclones won that game 57-53. In the rematch in Houston on February 19, the Cougars won 73-65.
Regardless of the game’s outcome, both teams are expected to be high seeds in the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is announced on Sunday afternoon.
