As we head into the final stretch of the football season, every game each week potentially impacts which teams make it to Arlington for the Big 12 Championship. The Week 9 matchups are no exception.

Oct 21, 2023; Norman, Oklahoma, USA; Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel (8) warms up before the game against the UCF Knights at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Dillon Gabriel and the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners travel to Lawrence to play Kansas in Week 9.

2023 Big 12 Predictions Results

On the season, I am 43-28 (.606) in predicting Big 12 games. Last week, I went 4-2. I had hopes that TCU had figured things out, but they hadn’t. And I also had Cincy winning their first conference game at home, and they didn’t.

Here are the previous predictions from earlier this season:

Big 12 Week 9 Matchups and Predictions

All times listed are Central Time.

Kansas (5-2, 2-2) vs. #6 Oklahoma (7-0, 4-0)

Saturday, 11 a.m., Fox

The last time the Sooners played in Lawrence, it looked like Kansas might pull off the upset. Kansas was up 10-0 at the half, but Oklahoma stormed back in the second half to win 35-23. Kansas is a better team than the one two years ago. This one could be close. However, the Sooners had a close scare last week. They will shake that off, and KU will still be in search of that elusive 6th win to become bowl eligible.

Pick: Oklahoma

Kansas State (5-2, 3-1) vs. Houston (3-4, 1-3)

Saturday, 11 a.m., ESPN2

The Cats proved last week that they are still a dominant force in the conference. It’s Homecoming in Manhattan. Their quarterback duo of Will Howard and Avery Johnson will continue to move the ball through the air and on the ground. Houston, we have a problem here.

Pick: Kansas State

UCF (3-4, 0-4) vs. West Virginia (4-3, 2-2)

Saturday, 11 a.m., FS1

The Knights certainly gave the Sooners a scare last weekend. Had it not been for a missed two-point conversion, that game could have gone to overtime. John Rhys Plumlee looked like the star he was expected to be. Meanwhile, West Virginia has lost two straight after briefly sitting close to the top of the Big 12 standings. Things will be bouncing the right way at the Bounce House. Look for UCF to get their first-ever Big 12 conference win.

Pick: UCF

Baylor (3-4, 2-2) vs. Iowa State (4-3, 3-1)

Saturday, 2:30 p.m., Big 12 Now on ESPN+

Sure, Baylor got a win last week, but it was over lowly Cincinnati. Iowa State had a bye week and should be well-rested for the trip to Waco. Baylor will continue to struggle, as they have most of the season. Look for the Cyclones to move to 4-1 in conference play and remain in contention for a berth in Arlington.

Pick: Iowa State

#7 Texas (6-1, 3-1) vs. BYU (5-2, 2-2)

Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ABC

As the Sooners did, Texas had a scare last weekend, letting a Houston team get too close. Don’t look for that to happen two weeks in a row. Even with an injured Quinn Ewers, Texas should not have any problem with BYU.

Pick: Texas

Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-1) vs. Cincinnati (2-5, 0-4)

Saturday, 7 p.m., ESPN2

A month ago, the Pokes were dead in the water. Since then, they’ve won three straight conference games over Kansas, Kansas State, and West Virginia. And they are back home in Stillwater. It’s Homecoming. And no one does homecoming better than Oklahoma State. There is no way Cincinnati can sneak out a win.

Pick: Oklahoma State

Big 12 Bye Weeks

  • TCU (4-4, 2-3)
  • Texas Tech (3-5, 2-3)
