TCU Horned Frogs alum Steve Avila didn't hear his name called in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he didn't wait long to hear it called on Day 2. Avila will play in the city where his collegiate career ended for the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams used the 36th overall pick – their first of the draft – on him.

Avila joins fellow TCU alum Joe Noteboom on the offensive line in Los Angeles. Noteboom won a Super Bowl with the organization in 2021 and has played his entire career with the Rams.

He follows Quentin Johnston, who was taken in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Notably, the Rams share a facility with the Chargers in SoFi Stadium.

Avila saw his draft stock soar after impressing at several off-season events like the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. He goes higher than many projections, which averaged out to Pick 49.

During his time at TCU, Avila was named an All-American (2022) and All-Big 12 three times (honorable mention, second team, and first team). He joined them as a highly-rated four-star recruit and spent five seasons with the Horned Frogs.

Avila likely continues his career as a starting offensive guard for the Rams.
