Daune Morris Talks Tennessee Offer And Visit Recap
Tennessee is well known to target athletes inside the state often as they try to keep them in the state. One of those athletes recently received an offer on his visit to Tennessee as the Volunteers destroyed the UConn Huskies. Daune Morris has put together an excellent junior campaign and is receiving attention from the Vols.
Morris is an athlete from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Daune is from Chattanooga, Tennessee, but transferred from Red Bank to Oakland. He measures in at around 5'9 and 180 pounds as a junior, plays a lot of running back, and is currently a semi-finalist for 6A MR Football in Tennessee. After his visit and offer, he took the time to speak with Volunteer Country.
"The atmosphere was great and different; you could tell that those fans love Saturdays at Neyland, and just being in that type of atmosphere, it's a different type of football," Morris states. He then goes on to say, "The offensive game, Coach [Josh] Heupel, and Coach [Jerry] Mack caught my eye the most."
Jumping to his offer, he mentioned that he didn't expect to receive it from Tennessee but responded, "The feeling was good; it was unexpected though. But overall, it was a great feeling." He looked deeper into the running back group by saying, "I love that they had similar plays that I run, and that's something I could say is adjustable for a running back. And also, coach Mack is doing cone drills before the game; little things are important to me."
We had the chance to speak with his trainer, Kaylen Stewart, over Beyond The Grind and with D1 Chattanooga. "His work ethic is phenomenal. He studies the game. When we are training, he pays attention to the small details to make himself better at everything we do," Stewart stated. Stewart also talks about what stands out the most about Morris by saying, "Just his playmaking ability to get open in space and be able to make plays full speed. Also, him being very explosive is one big part that separates him from others on the field."
Morris already has connections with the University of Tennessee. He trains with Tennessee commit Boo Carter under Stewart. "Our relationship is tight; we grew up together. He's like a brother to me. He definitely enjoyed my recruitment, and just to be able to learn from him and grind together makes us who we are." Overall, the Oakland athlete has compiled a great season as he campaigns for Mr. Football. It will be interesting to look into it as the Volunteers are pushing for the Mr. Football candidate.
