Nico Iamaleava Drawing Eyes Ahead of Spring Game

Everyone knows what kind of potential Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Nico Iamaleava has, but we get a sneak peek of it during the upcoming spring game.
In this story:

When Nico Iamaleava officially signed with the Tennessee Volunteers, Rocky Top immediately lit up with excitement. There is no limit to what the California prospect can make happen under center. He is the type of prospect you build around, and plan to comepte for a national championship with.

CBS Sports recently released a list of the top ten freshmen to watch in the upcoming spring games, and highlighted Iamaleava as one of them. The author, Sam Marsdale, wrote "There will always be focus surrounding him given his status as a recruit. Spring ball is a sneak preview to see if he can take over the reigns sooner than later." With Joe Milton III lined up as the the projected starter for the Vols in 2023, Nico may not immediately see the field, as the article noted.

However, head coach Josh Heupel gave rave reviews of Iamaleava's performance in Last Saturday's Spring scrimmage at Neyland Stadium, as well as how he is improving. "Nico did a lot of really nice things—having his eyes in the right place, being able to make decisive reads, moving the pocket, pushing the football down the field and being accurate in the middle of the field. I thought for his first time being inside the stadium, he did a really nice job with controlling everything that happens when you're playing within the tempo of how we play."

Heupel also alluded to Nico's composure and the ability to stay within himself. With Tennessee's Orange and White game coming in just over a week, many eyes will be on Nico to see what he can do in his first fan-filled competitive environment. Heupel and his staff have to be excited about what Iamaleava can bring, possibly early on.
