Fans got a small sample of the Knoxville-native guard BJ Edwards in his freshman season. However, he may take on a bigger role in year two with the Tennessee Volunteers.

BJ Edwards was a four-star coming out of high school. He was a top-20 point guard in the class of 2022 and was a highly sought-after recruit in Tennessee. He was ranked 2nd overall in the state.

Despite getting offers from Georgia, Florida, Auburn, and Georgetown, the guard out of Knoxville Catholic High School decided to stay home and play for Tennessee. There was a lot of buzz around the prospect. At 6 feet 3 inches tall, Edwards has good size for a point guard and showed spurts of getting physical to get to the basket for higher percentage shots.

His athleticism and controlling pace give the Volunteers lots of depth in the backcourt. Fans did not get a good enough sample of the young point guard this season. Edwards had just 17 points all season and took a measly 12-shot attempts.

However, there is hope for him to play more moving forward since he did appear in 14 games this season. Head coach Rick Barnes commented on Edwards to the press around the time of Zakai Zeigler's injury.

"I think BJ (Edwards) has done a good job for us. He's one of the guys we do have confidence in. As it gets later in the year, the possessions become very valuable. But he's handled himself well, and we have confidence in him. Again, we know we've got him, and he'll do his job getting ready. He'll prepare the right way."

Barnes has a plan for Edwards. He will get a move up on the depth chart due to Tyreke Key leaving because of no more eligibility. The role will be bigger, and this offseason for Edwards will be huge for himself and the Vols.
