Jacob Warren Named To Mackey Award Watch List
Jacob Warren does it both on and off the field and has received preseason recognition. After being named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List last Thursday for his community service, Warren was also named to the John Mackey Award Watch List on Friday. This award is given out annually to the nation’s top tight end, and Warren was also a part of the preseason list last year.
While the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List comprised 108 players, the John Mackey Award Watch List included 48 tight ends, including the winner of the award last season, Brock Bowers from the University of Georgia. Bowers is the clear favorite to repeat as a junior, but he will have significant competition. In addition to Jacob Warren and Brock Bowers, there are eight tight ends from the SEC, including Bowers’ teammate from Georgia, sophomore Oscar Delp.
Last season, Warren may not have had the gaudy receiving numbers that some others on the watchlist possess, but he certainly has experience and ability. He is reliable and will be a key part of the offense. With so much speed on the outside, having someone who can be a big threat across the middle, especially from the tight-end position, makes the attack all the more dynamic. With all of the receiving production gone from last year in Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman, there is a lot of slack that needs to be picked up, and Warren can be a part of that.
