Joe Milton III Stars On Senior Night As Vols Crush Vanderbilt

The Tennessee Volunteers (8-4, 4-4) cruised past Vanderbilt (2-10, 0-8) partly due to brilliant play from quarterback Joe Milton III.
In this story:

It was an interesting path to senior night for Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III. He went through the transfer portal, a benching with the Vols, and finally got his starting opportunity this year. He got rewarded for his patience and diligence on Saturday evening, as he accounted for six total touchdowns in Tennessee's win over Vanderbilt.

Milton set career-high marks in passing yards and passing touchdowns, keeping his offense ahead of the chains while finding explosive plays downfield. It was his best game wearing orange, and he got to do it in front of his family and Neyland Stadium for the last time was a special moment.

The future of the quarterback position at the University of Tennessee is Nico Iamaleava. There is no questioning that - but Tennessee chose to use this year as a redshirt for Iamaleava. Milton understood that and helped bring him along - even if Milton's starting year didn't lead to a New Year's 6 Bowl win, his impact on the program might be felt for years to come because of the person he is. It's nice to see him get rewarded for all his efforts. It'll be an interesting few weeks ahead with bowl prep coming up, but tonight, it was a fun one in Knoxville, Tennessee.
