Back in January, during the college football transfer portal days, the Tennessee Volunteers landed offensive tackle John Campbell. He was a former member of the Miami Hurricanes and will be a senior this upcoming season. Looking at the Vols football team as a whole, particularly their offense, one of the biggest standout components is the offensive line. They have seven seniors in the lineup, and this includes Campbell.

Looking at the Hurricanes' offensive line from last season, they gave up 36 sacks as a team, with an average of giving up three per game. This ranked in the bottom half of all FBS teams. The Vols' offensive line last season gave up 27 sacks, bringing that average to around a little under two a game, which isn't elite by any means but also nothing to completely sneeze at. The experience with a lot of the same plates coming back helps to build more and more chemistry.

Some key returners on the line include Cooper Mays, Javontez Spraggins, and Jeremiah Crawford. Surrounding Campbell with these linemen already involved with Rocky Top's culture is great for him. This is especially true when he could most definitely be starting amongst those players that were named. Another thing to watch out for is that Campbell mostly plays tackle and could be seen guarding Joe Milton's blindside at left tackle this season.

When playing with a quarterback who takes his time to get the ball deep down the field, it will be key for Campbell to keep rushers from coming off his side of the field. Campbell offers Tennessee a new and experienced look at the tackle spot on the offensive line. This provides good reinforcement for a Vols offense that has the potential to be high-powered next season. It also leaves a possibility that Campbell can play at the very important left tackle spot.
