Josh Dobbs Inks Deal With Cleveland Browns

Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Josh Dobb signed a one-year deal with Cleveland on Monday.

Josh Dobbs is one of the faces of Tennessee football in this generation. Dobbs played four years at Tennessee, starting all 13 games in his junior and senior seasons. In his four years, he totaled 7138 yards and 53 touchdowns through the air. He also had 2160 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on the ground, with double-digit scores rushing in his upperclassman seasons. Dobbs even had a receiving touchdown in those two seasons, too. He earned AP Second Team All-SEC honors in his senior season.

The Steelers selected Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2018, he saw action in five games with Pittsburgh before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars before the 2019 season. He returned to Pittsburgh in September 2020 after being waived by Jacksonville. Dobbs saw action in one game that season before being placed on injured reserve. Dobbs signed with the Browns before the 2022 season and was waived mid-season. The Titans picked him up, and Dobbs got the chance to start the season's final two games, including the final game against the Jaguars, with a playoff spot on the line.

A lost fumble by Dobbs hurt the Titans in that game, but still, he showed enough for a team to be interested. On Monday, Dobbs and Cleveland agreed to a one-year deal. His agent, Mike McCartney, reported the deal via his Twitter account, and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that the deal would be worth $2 million, fully guaranteed. Dobbs will be backing up Deshaun Watson, with Kellen Mond also in the quarterback room.
