Josh Heupel Addresses If Tennessee Plans To Use The "Tush-Push"
If you aren't doing well on fourth down this season, you've probably heard how your team should use the "tush-push." The Philadelphia Eagles are changing game strategy by using this rugby play to convert short-yardage situations at a near-automatic rate.
Those questions have usually been kept to the professional level, but the play is working so well that there has been some murmuring around the college ranks. Tennessee didn't convert two short-yardage fourth downs against Alabama last weekend, and Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was asked in his succeeding presser if he would consider installing the play.
"Listen, at the end of the day, we've got to find a way to pick up the first down. We've used a lot of different formations. We've been under center, we've been in gun, we've used it all. So we've got to find a way to pick it up in those two critical situations." Josh Heupel on if he would consider using the "tush-push"
Admittedly, it's not much of an answer, but it's interesting to see that question appear at the college ranks. It's hard to argue with the strategy, specifically at the University of Tennessee. Starting quarterback Joe Milton III measures 6-5 and 245 pounds, one of the biggest talents we've seen at the position in years.
