Lance Heard Is Glen Elarbee's Biggest Win

Former LSU Tigers offensive tackle Lance Heard committed to the Tennessee Volunteers earlier this week, and offensive line coach Glen Elarbee continues a strong offseason.

Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee has had many wins in recent months. He signed one of the top offensive line classes in the 2024 recruiting cycle, fielded a Joe Moore semifinalist on the field, and has built momentum with several elite 2025 prospects. However, his biggest win on the trail to date has been landing LSU transfer offensive tackle Lance Heard.

According to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, Heard was the No. 15 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He also checked in as the No. 19 overall transfer in this cycle and the No. 4 offensive tackle. Heard has three seasons of eligibility remaining and could assume starting left tackle snaps for the Vols next season. He's 6-6 and 340 pounds. Heard appeared in 12 games as a true freshman at LSU and started one against Army.

The Vols return three impact offensive linemen next season: Cooper Mays, Javontez Spraggins, and John Campbell Jr. Bringing Heard in creates more competition in a talented, experienced room. The coaching staff plans to start redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava next season, and fielding a top offensive line could enhance a dormant 2023 passing game. Heard carries a lot of physical, athletic talent that few offensive linemen around the country have. With this addition, Elarbee has made his unit a serious contender for the national spotlight.
