SI Ranks Tennessee's Schedule As Second-Easiest In SEC
Tennessee has a lot of expectations heading into the 2024 season. They've won 20 games over the past two seasons and have many national eyes on them. With the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams next year, there's no time for the Vols to make a run like the present.
As we've seen in the four-team era in the CFP, your schedule matters. Teams that play reasonable out-of-conference foes while going through a gauntlet in their conference schedules usually come out ahead. Tennessee should be favored in nine of their 12 regular-season games next season, one of the top marks across the conference.
SI.com went through the exercise of ranking every 2024 SEC schedule, and Tennessee had the No. 2-easiest strength-of-schedule behind the Missouri Tigers. Tennessee's opponents had a combined record of 78-69, and outside of road tests at Georgia and Oklahoma, they have most of their big games in Neyland Stadium. You can read SI's full article here, but here is what they had to say about the Vols.
"Big Orange gets to tangle with SEC East rival Georgia on the road late in the season and has to visit Heupel's alma mater, the Sooners, on the road, in the first month of the season. But otherwise, the Vols get the Wolfpack in a neutral site in Charlotte and Alabama at home." - SI on Tennessee's 2024 schedule
