Big news came this week for Tennessee athletics. Athletic director Danny White revealed a plan to add a new touch to Rocky Top that will offer amenities year-round for Vol fans everywhere.

White spoke of the project in an interview, saying, "Innovation is at the forefront of everything we do. The ideation of this new Neyland Entertainment District exemplifies that mindset. This is a massive project that has the potential to impact our entire city positively."

This entertainment district that White and others are so eager about will contain shops, restaurants, and even a hotel at the end of the plaza. It would be the first of its kind on any college campus. The idea of where this district would go is not exactly easy. The university itself is located in a very infrastructure-occupied part of Knox County. However, White and those with him planning the project seem to know what to do with it. A "tabletop" structure will be placed on top of the G-10 garage that sits in between Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena. The shops and other amenities will be placed on it, with the hotel at the end of the garage on the Neyland side.

University President Randy Boyd also said that the entire project would be done without state funding in a recent statement. "This public-private partnership opportunity will enhance the look and atmosphere of Neyland Stadium and the Knoxville campus while creating an additional destination for the city of Knoxville, all without state funding." The project, when done, could add a nice aesthetic to the outside of the Volunteers' 102-year-old football stadium.
