The Vols May Be Georgia's Biggest Challenge
The annual battle between Georgia and Tennessee flips back to Knoxville this upcoming season. The game, much like last season, is towards the end of the year. This puts the matchup on alert to be a big matchup with implications of the college football playoff on the line.
Georgia is coming off a national championship season as they defeated TCU 65-7 to win back-to-back titles and the fourth in program history. As for the Vols, they are coming off a 10-2 season that ended in a win in the Orange Bowl against Clemson, 31-14. With results to end their seasons like this, it is clear that both teams are competing for a national title next season. However, Georgia has a clear path once again if they can get their quarterback predicament situated.
The Dawgs have six opponents next season with below .500 records from this past season. In fact, other than the Volunteers (who had an 11-2 record), the team(s) with the highest record from this past season who played Georgia are Ole Miss and South Carolina, who both finished 8-5. The Volunteers more than likely have this game marked up. They lost in Athens to the Bulldogs 27-13. Leading up to that game, the Vols were ranked No. 1 in this past season's first college football playoff poll. The loss hindered Tennessee's season. They now have the chance to do what Georgia did to them in Knoxville, and it sets up where it could very well be the one loss the Dawgs have had all season. It is surely one of the must-watch matchups in college football in the 2023-24 season.
