Texas A&M Player Spotlight: Edgerrin Cooper

Here is a look at the Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper ahead of the Tennessee Volunteers matchup against him on Saturday.
In this story:

On Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers will face off with the Texas A&M Aggies at 3:30 p.m. E.T. Tennessee came off of a bye week while the Aggies are coming off of a loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. It will be A&M's first true road SEC game of the season for A&M. Looking at this Aggie team, the strength comes from their front seven on defense. They lead the SEC in total sacks so far this season. Edgerrin Cooper is the key player that catalyzes this success Texas A&M has shown.

Cooper is a junior linebacker from Covington, Louisiana. Measuring in at 6-3, he is a handful with the athleticism and speed he shows off of the edges, getting in the backfield to both running backs and quarterbacks alike. Thus far this season, Cooper has recorded 41 total tackles, which compares really well through five games, as he had 61 total throughout the 2022 season. He also has six sacks this season. He is the team leader for Texas A&M in both of those categories.

The Tennessee offensive line must always be aware of where Cooper is on the field. Arguably, the strength of their offense has come from the running game, and he has been an expert at stopping that so far in 2023. The battle between Cooper and the Tennessee backs and offensive linemen will be big on Saturday.

As his career has gone on, Cooper has already become better at forcing the turnover ball and has a forced fumble this season. His efforts have helped Texas A&M work to become second in the SEC, only behind Florida in force fumble recovery. The Vols will be seeing No. 45 for the Aggies controlling the defense on Saturday. He will be a player on their watchlist as gameday inches closer.
