In practice session number seven on April 1st, the Tennessee Volunteers got to do something they've been waiting to do again since their Orange Bowl victory. They got to compete against each other in a "game" setting. After a few really good practices, Josh Heupel and his staff got to see some of the fruits of their labor at Neyland Stadium.

When asked about the scrimmage, Heupel shared his thoughts and viewed it as a positive. "I loved the energy, really, from the entire squad. I thought defensively, we were relentless and played with energy. They did a really nice job, in particular, the defense. I thought they had a really good day."

As Heupel stated, the defense had a great day and did a good job getting off the field, according to the Vols Head Coach. He mentioned specific players, such as Defensive Linemen Tyler Baron and Elijah Simmons, who Coach said have had great Springs to this point.

As far as Nico Iamaleava, Heupel was left impressed by the youngster. "Nico did a lot of really nice things—having his eyes in the right place, being able to make decisive reads, moving the pocket, pushing the football down the field, and being accurate in the middle of the field." Iamaleava has stated that the biggest improvement area is figuring out the tempo, and Heupel gave positive feedback on that aspect of Nico's game.

Squirrel White has had a great spring so far and continued that trend on Saturday for the pass catchers. Head coach Heupel remarked that White did a good job of working the middle of the field, executing from the whistle to the next snap and doing so efficiently.

With the Orange and White game less than two weeks out, the Vols now have some Spring Ball under their belt, including their first action inside Neyland. With Spring coming down the home stretch, all eyes are on the Vols as they prepare for what is sure to be an electric 2023 season.
