Can Zakai Zeigler Win The Bob Cousy Award?
The Volunteers have a key player returning in 2023. Point guard Zakai Zeigler will be back for year three on Rocky Top. He is much needed for a team that had six seniors celebrated on senior night.
On that same night, Zeigler suffered a season-ending leg injury. So, the country never got to see him in the NCAA tournament or SEC tournament, for that matter. This alone could be huge for his junior season in Knoxville as he could help accomplish the goal of a national title. It is something he missed out on completely doing last year and one major thing missing from his resume. Zeigler also has improved every season so far. His point, assist, rebound, block, and steal averages increased from his freshman to sophomore season. When he is back on the court healthy and leading the Vols' attack, there is no telling the numbers he can put up. He has always been a floor general type of guard for Tennessee too. He is great at setting up himself and his teammates for great looks to score. This leadership will be needed for the Vols greatly, and it can really inadvertently get him some postseason recognition.
Being one of the premier returning guards in the sport, Zeigler can also put himself on the watchlist for the Bob Cousy Award. This is given to the country's best point guard and is one of the highest recognitions in college hoops. This upcoming season is set up to be a huge one for the guard from Long Island. He can get a chance to bring the Volunteers to glory with a tournament run he did not get to be a part of last season. He can also make a name for himself entirely to help get him some hardware and onto the next level.
