Dalton Knecht Named SEC Player Of The Week

Tennessee transfer wing already impressing on a national level
In this story:

After just 2 regular season games with Tennessee, Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht is already catching people's eye. Knecht was named the SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the first week of the college basketball season. Knecht was the leading scorer in wins over Tennessee Tech and Wisconsin, but his performance on Friday in Madison is likely what got him the award.

Knecht poured in 24 points and 5 rebounds in the Volunteer win over Wisconsin in a game that was close throughout, but Tennessee never ended up trailing. Knecht's scoring was a big reason for that as he was able to get to the rim and the free-throw line easily. Knecht showed that the Vols have an isolation scorer and go-to guy offensively that they arguably haven't had under Rick Barnes.

Knecht also had 17 points in a blowout win against Tennessee Tech to open the Vols' season last Monday.

So far, the transfer has not just been one of the best portal additions in the country, but one of the best players in the country. If Tennessee can continue to play this way offensively, it's because Knecht along with some other pieces have completely elevated it from a season ago.

Don't be surprised if Knecht wins this award a couple of other times this year and works his way into the conversation for national awards. The things he can do this season to elevate this Tennessee team could end up being stuff that is talked about for a long time in Knoxville.
