Cameron Carr was a part of the Tennessee Volunteers 2023 recruiting class for basketball. This class ranked 21st in the country, featuring two other players and Carr (J.P. Estrella and Cade Phillips).

Carr himself came out of high school as a top-five player from Missouri and a top-ten shooting guard in the class of 2023. He is now a part of the ultra-deep backcourt the Tennessee Volunteers boost that may be the best one in the country. He helped his high school, Link Academy, go 27-1 and lead them to the GEICO National tournament. It also finished as the top-ranked school in the country. In the semi-finals against Sunrise Christian Academy, Carr finished with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. He did this on 60% shooting.

What can Carr do now and in the future for this Tennessee guard group?

He has a wingspan of 7'1", which is staggering for a guard measuring in at 6'4". This can allow him to stride past defenders on offense and can keep opposing ball handlers in front of him on defense.

You can also see from the start he got at GEICO Nationals that he can score at a high rate, much like what some of the transfer guards on Tennessee's squad showed during their trip to Italy. Carr has a good amount of weight on his shoulders since he is the lone guard from the 2023 class and represents the future of the backcourt on Rocky Top. A big question is how much he will play during the 2023-24 season. The Vols' backcourt is loaded with players like Zakai Zeigler, Santiago Vescovi, Jordan Gainey, Freddie Dilione, Jahmai Mashack, D.J. Jefferson, Dalton Knecht, and more. The playing time may be up in the air, but Carr shows much potential in time within the Tennessee program.
