SEC Outlook: Major Tennessee Implications In A Four Game Wednesday

While the Vols host Alabama on Wednesday, the other three games could greatly impact Tennessee's double bye chances
In this story:

Taking care of business is important, and if the Vols can do that against Alabama, it will make the other results on Wednesday way less stressful. However, the Vols with a loss could be impacted by the other three SEC games, plus Auburn's win over Missouri on Tuesday.

First, the less important of the three, but still notable. Ole Miss travels to Gainesville to take on Florida. The Gators are noteworthy as they sit at 6-6 in conference play. While Todd Golden's team is two behind Tennessee in the standings, it's important to remember that Florida beat Tennessee just a couple of weeks ago, and they don't play again. The head-to-head win could look a lot better if Florida were to hold serve tomorrow and Tennessee were to lose.

The Vols have yet to play either Arkansas or Texas A&M, so in terms of how this impacts the standings, they could still go a couple of different ways. Texas A&M, with a win tomorrow, puts themselves in a very comfortable position for a double bye, as they'll be up three games on the four seed. Tennessee doesn't want a loss combined with an Arkansas win over the Aggies. That would certainly make the game on February 28th between the Vols and Hogs much more important, as Arkansas would only trail Tennessee by one game.

Lastly, Kentucky travels to Mississippi State in a matchup of bubble teams. The Bulldogs are irrelevant regarding Tennessee's place in the standings, as the Vols beat them by double digits twice this season and lead them by three games. However, Kentucky has that season-saving win in Knoxville and only are down one game. A Kentucky win and a Vols loss could end up being devastating if the two teams were tying for the four-seed.
